outcome: The spanish fleet were defeated at the Battle of Lake Maracaibo. This war, which killed half of the Venezuelas white population, was finally over and Venezuela was free.

The Venezuelan War of Independence was the war fought for the emancipation of what is today Venezuela, between 1811 and 1823. It was part of a series of related emancipation movements throughout Spanish America, resulting from Napoleon's invasion of Spain. The Venezuelan war was militarily and politically linked to other South American wars of independence, since armies and statesmen from throughout the continent often collaborated and fought across what would eventually be national boundaries.
